José Omar Torres was born in Matanzas, Cuba in 1953. He is a former Director of the highly regarded Taller Experimental de Gráfica in Havana and a member of the Asociación Internacional de Artes Plásticos (AIAP). He completed postgraduate studies in the Facultad de Artes y Letras, Universidad de la Habana,
Cuba and studied lithography with the masters Luis Miguel Valdés, José Contino and José Luis Posada. He undertook studies in printmaking at the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana and during a residency at the Brandywine Workshop in Philadelphia, USA.
The artist has had numerous solo and group exhibitions since 1973 in his native Cuba as well as Mexico, Colombia, Panama, Sweden and the U.S.
