Orestes Gaulhiac was born in Santiago de Cuba in 1960. He graduated from Havana’s Escuela Nacional de Diseño in 1980. The artist is a member of Unión
Nacional de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba (UNEAC). Gaulhiac has had a number of one-man gallery shows since the late 1980’s. They include the Galería Castillo Mayor in Lisbon, Portugal; Galería Jose Antonio
Jimenez de las Cuevas in Puebla, Mexico; Casa de la Cultura Pirámide in Mexico City, Mexico; and the Galería Robert Saavedra in Los Angeles, California. He has also participated in several group shows
internationally.
Kings, queens, counts and countesses, dukes and duchesses, deities, virgins, mythological heroes, and, of course, buffoons all inhabit Gaulhiac’s forbidden universe where he creates new
relations between the rulers and the powerful on one hand and their subjects on the other.
